Sue Bergeson served for over eight years as the national vice president of consumer and family affairs for Optum Health, the behavioral health unit of UnitedHealthcare. In her national leadership position, she built a new department; influenced and lead a new clinical orientation; integrated a new person-centered and recovery-oriented approach; developed new tools, resources, policies, and programs; and created new innovative consumer-centric products. She also enabled system contracting with innovative community care resources, including peer and family provider groups and services such as credentialing, contracting, benefit design, level of care guidelines, and eligibility and claims payment.

Sue spent eight years as the vice president, and then CEO, of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, the largest mood disorder specific non-profit in the country. Under her tenure, DBSA grew to serve over five million members per year, offering over 30 self-care and health literacy products and over 1,000 support groups in all fifty states. As a frequent speaker on behavioral health consumer-centered issues and concerns, Sue has been on The View, the Today Show, Good Morning America, CBS news, NBC news, and CNN. She has participated in many national work groups, research studies, and national consumer initiatives.

Sue’s passion and deep understanding of behavioral health and consumer centered issues/concerns enables her to quickly establish rapport among subject matter experts and collaboratively integrate differentiated strategies and solutions.
